Telemarketing / automated telephone fraud warning to AIR MILES reward miles collectors

Published on Wednesday, January 26, 2011

The AIR MILES Loyalty Group has advised BMO that Canadian collectors have reported receiving telemarketing and automated telephone calls from an unknown organization. The message informs AIR MILES reward miles collectors they have won a prize consisting of between 10,000 and 100,000 AIR MILES reward miles. Collectors are then prompted to press "1" and are transferred to an "operator" who asks for personal and credit card information.

This is not an AIR MILES initiative. AIR MILES does not use an automated message to notify collectors they have won reward miles.

Customers need to protect themselves by never sharing personal information or account information with anyone who should not have access to it.

  • Reminder: You should never provide personal or account information to unknown individuals or companies.
  • Please report any suspicious telephone calls when personal information is requested to the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre at 1-888-495-8501 or by email at info@antifraudcentre.ca.
  • Please visit the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre website at http://www.antifraudcentre-centreantifraude.ca/ for more information about protecting yourself against fraud.
